Currently in Chicago — September 6, 2023: Summer Heat Sticks Around
Plus, welcome to the new Chicago newsletter writer, Katje Sabin!
Hot and cloudy
Chicago was treated to a hot and sunny Labor Day weekend, and it seems the entire city trooped to the shores of Lake Michigan (mom pro tip: white vinegar helps soothe sunburns).
The heat will continue in the mid 80s through Wednesday, with the sun playing peek-a-boo behind clouds all day. We’ll get a break tonight as we drop down to the mid 60s, and should stay there as we head into a beautiful early autumn weekend. That burst of ragweed pollen that has dusted the area for the last week should be winding down soon, as well (Gesundheit!).

One of my favorite organizations, Mutual Aid Disaster Relief, serves as a hub of mutual aid efforts focused on climate action in emergencies — like Hurricane season. Find mutual aid network near you and join, or donate to support networks in Florida:
