Currently in Chicago — October 13, 2023: Rain and wind through the weekend

Plus, new hope for rapid solar power expansion.

The weather, currently.

Expect rain through the weekend

We have a 100% chance of precipitation on Friday, with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon; we’ll see a high of 60 and winds with gusts of up to 30mph. Friday night will bring even more rain and wind, with a low around 55.

Saturday will feature more showers and a potential thunderstorm with a high near 56 and gusts up to 35mph, but the precipitation will taper off throughout Saturday night, with only a 50% chance of rain on Sunday. We’ll see a low of about 48 on Sunday night, and the scattered showers will continue through Monday, with a break for some sun by Tuesday.

What you need to know, currently.

The LA Times has a story out today about the solar industry and desert conservationists making friends. It’s worth a read in its entirety, only if for the fact that it should bring a sunny moment into your day.

After nearly two years of negotiations, a coalition of solar companies, conservationists and other groups has come to terms on a set of principles — and plans for further collaboration — that could speed up the construction of badly needed renewable energy projects while also protecting wildlife habitat, preserving treasured landscapes and benefiting nearby communities.
