Currently in Chicago — October 12, 2023: Heavy rain and potential t-storms

Plus, our new global warming reality, in one terrifying graph.

The weather, currently.

Rain and thunderstorms moving in

Wednesday night will see rain and potential thunderstorms marching up our way from downstate, with possible small hail and heavy rain at times that could lead to flooding during morning commute hours. We could have up to one inch of rain overnight, and more rain tomorrow could add another half-inch to the total. The deluge will ease up by late Thursday, but we still have a 60% chance of more showers through the night. Heavy rain will return on Friday and could continue through to the weekend. The temperatures will stay relatively stable between 56 and 59, with winds that could gust up to 30mph.

What you need to know, currently.

A new comprehensive summary of September’s shocking global temperature record was published on Wednesday. It’s worth a read in its entirety — it give an overview of exactly what happened, why, and what we can expect over the coming year or so as a result.

I’ll leave it at that. This graph says it all.

We are in a climate emergency.
