Currently in Chicago — June 6, 2024: Sunshine on the way

Plus, new ways to support our independent climate journalism

The weather, currently.

Storms will give way to sunshine

After weeks of thunderstorms peppering the state and freaking out the dogs, Thursday should usher in at least ten days of actual summery weather.

My soggy garden is ready to dry out, and all my hot weather crops will finally get a chance to grow and attract some pollinators.

In other news, despite all the media hullabaloo, it turned out that the cicada deluge missed us entirely. But I’ve got my eyes peeled for the first fireflies of the season. With the drastic decline of the Earth’s insect biomass, I would honestly welcome the cicadas (and, dare I say it? even a few mosquitos) as well as the fireflies.
