Plus, new ways to support our independent climate journalism

The weather, currently.

Record-breaking heat on the way

Chicagoans are in the midst of a record-breaking heat wave. Temps will sit at least ten degrees above average for most of the next week as a heat dome works its way from the southwest to the northeastern US.

Expect highs in the 90s for the next six days, with nighttime lows in the mid-70s. Scattered thunderstorms could develop as well, contributing to the humidity and pushing the heat index well into the 100s.

Dog lovers, please remember that concrete and asphalt surfaces can be over 50 degrees warmer than air temps, and protect your pal’s paw pads from burns.
