Currently in Chicago — June 11, 2024: Hot days and twilight twinkles

The temperate weather over the next day and night will give way to some serious summertime heat, with thunderstorms rolling through on Wednesday and Thursday as the temps climb to nearly 90.

Have you seen any fireflies in your area yet? On the Northside, we are on the lookout for the cheery little luminescent midair marvels that festoon our summer twilight walks. These little soft-bodied beetles have been having a rough go of it lately, so we purposely leave areas of our yard and garden undisturbed so these kinds of native fauna can have a bit of sanctuary in our city.
