Currently in Chicago — August 5, 2024: Chance of storms through Tuesday

Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever

The weather, currently.

Chance of t-storms

After a hot and sunny Sunday (hope all you Lolla kids made it through okay!), we’ll have clouds and scattered showers rolling in overnight, with a slight chance of thunderstorms a little before sunrise. Expect a low of 73 tonight. The wet stuff and chance of storms will stick around all day Monday, increasing Monday night and into Tuesday.

But we’re getting a break from the heavy heat… Monday will be only in the upper 70s, and Monday night could bring a refreshing 68 with some light winds. Then expect a run of clear and sunny days into the weekend..

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
